It all started out in Chicago in 1886, a chicago company shipped all sorts of gold-filled watches to jewelry in Minnesota. This action led to start of Sears and Roebuck. Richard Sears was an agent of the Minnesota railway station. Because he had this job at the station, he had a lot of extra time on his hand. With all this time he sold lumber and coal to the locals for a little extra cash. Then a neighboring Redwood Falls jeweler gave Sears a shipment of watches, which he then purchased and sold them for a great profit. As time went on Sears expanded rapidly selling not only watches and goods but also helped local farmers with crops. The first sears was made in minneapolis. It was so big that they had to rent out a five story building just to hold everything.
